Huizhou Daya Bay Economic and Technological Development Zone was approved by the State Council in May 1993. It administers three sub-district offices in Aotou, Xiqu and Xiayong. It has a land area of 293 square kilometers (accounting for 2.58% of Huizhou City), a sea area (including islands) of 1319 square kilometers (29.19%), a coastline of 63.1 kilometers (22.42%), and a permanent resident population of 44.82 million, (7.3%).
