Huizhou Daya Bay economic and technological development zone (national level) is established in May, 1993 through the approval of the State Council. As a resident agency to People’s Municipal Government of Huizhou, Daya Bay consists of three sub-district offices, which are Aotou, West Area and Xiayong respectively, and covers a land area of 289 square kilometers and a sea area of 1300 square kilometers, with a coastline of 63.1 kilometers. According to the statistics of the Sixth National Census in 2010, the permanent resident population in Daya Bay is about 190,000.
Daya Bay development zone is located in the southern part of Huizhou City, Guangdong Province, adjacent to Shenzhen and Hong Kong. This area has a sub-tropical maritime climate which brings plentiful sunshine and rain to it all the year round and has an average temperature of 21.8 degrees centigrade. With such superior geographical environment, Daya Bay has developed sustainably and rapidly; moreover, it has been an integral part of the economic zone of Shenzhen, Dongguan and Huizhou and even the economic zone of Pearl River Delta, thus having a broad market space. Besides, with vast sea areas, short navigation routes and less silt, Daya Bay has an opening up shore of national level, that is, Huizhou Port, which has a throughput capacity of 50 million ton per year and has regular lines to Hong Kong, Taiwan and international lines to Kobe and Osaka in Japan. The transportation in Daya Bay is very convenient no matter by sea, by land or by air because the intercity speed highway of Huizhou-Shenzhen, Shenzhen-Shantou, Chaozhou-Dongguan comes through the development zone, forming a developed expressway network; the railway from Huizhou to Daya Bay has linked to the railway to Guangzhou, Meizhou and Shantou, the Beijing-Kowloon railway and the Beijing-Guangzhou railway, and the Xiamen-Shenzhen railway runs through the entire territory; besides, the light rail from Shenzhen, Dongguan to Huizhou is under construction, and it takes only one hour from the center part of Daya Bay to Shenzhen Bao’an International Airport.
For the next few years, Daya Bay district will continue to take the Scientific Outlook on Development as guidance, the stable growth as main tone, the benefit to people as main principle, creating an ecological petrochemical base, a logistics port of hundreds million tons, a beautiful coastal city and a harmonious well-off community, and strive to play a leading role in the construction of “A New District around Daya Bay”, and to be the first to build a comprehensive well-off society in 2017.
